Description

The EEG cluster investigates how electroencephalography (EEG) in the context of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) can be used to improve people's quality of life. We aim to develop knowledge, and eventually concrete applications, of hardware for collecting brainwave data, deep learning and artificial intelligence for analyzing and acting on such data, and a better understanding of the most intricate object in the universe that is the human brain. This is a highly interdisciplinary and exciting field that involves work in artificial intelligence, software engineering, electrical engineering, psychophysiology, neuroscience, business, and much more.

Description

The Non-Verbal Communication (NVC) cluster investigates how the sleeve can be used to convey non-verbal cues, such as eye contact, nodding, and smiling, which are key components when experiencing a conversation. Integrating facial expression recognition software with the sleeve’s technology will allow us to transfer these visual signals to the users even when the visual information is not available.

Goals

The cluster aims to create and evaluate a functional prototype for non-verbal communication, prioritizing facial expressions. We collaborate with researchers from the CAROU research group at Open University to integrate our sleeve technology with facial expression recognition software. Our upcoming study will assess the value of providing non-verbal cues to individuals when visual information is not available.
